Review – Illamasqua Duo Blush in Katie & Ambition
Thanks to Asos and a recent sale, i was able to get my hands on this duo from Illasmaqua. Prior to this purchase, i only have one other powder blush from Illasmaqua, in Nymph (which i have reviewed here). It is one of my absolute favourite matte powder blushes, and one that i reach out for pretty often. This duo retails for S$56 on the Asos website.
Before i go on, let’s take a look at some product pictures.
Product Description: (Taken from Illasmaqua website)
Featuring two beautiful matt Powder Blusher shades, Katie (Candy Pink) and Ambition (Neutral), the new Powder Blusher Duo, a first for Illamasqua, comes in a gorgeous compact with a mirror. Illamasqua Powder Blushers are highly pigmented, use them to shade, brighten, enhance and contour. Be bold; be daring and most importantly be the center of attention this party season.
This formulation can provide up to four to five variations of the same shade depending on how lightly or intensely it is applied. Use wet for a bolder colour pay-off, and it can also double up as an eye shadow. Apply using Blusher Brush 1 for colour on the centre of the cheeks, or using the new Blush Up Brush for more definition and contouring.
Here are swatches of both shades in this duo. The 2nd image below shows both shades blended together.
The black plastic packaging is the same as the one that holds Nymph, except this includes a mirror in the compact. Great for touch-ups on the go! Katie and Ambition are both matte shades, but Ambition has got some glitter in it, and i do like the variation. If i travel with this, i get to choose from either or simply blend both together, depending on the look i’m going for.
To be honest, there’s nothing unique about these shades. Several dupes out there in fact. I bought this simply because i’ve been very happy with the quality and performance of Nymph. As expected, the duo is pigmented, and long lasting. I would not expect anything less than that. However…. it chalks up quite a bit when i swipe my brush over each shade, and my brush picks up a lot of color (too much!). I definitely have to go easy the next time i use this. This doesn’t happen when i use Nymph, so i must say it was unexpected.
Otherwise, all’s good and am happy with this purchase. I doubt i will buy anymore Illasmaqua blushes though, unless a particular shade really calls out to me. You get good quality for the price that you pay, but i don’t think i will go into hoard-mode with this brand. Nice to have, but not a must-have.
I’ve done a simple FOTD here, using this blush duo (both shades blended together). It’s very neutral and versatile, so easy to pair this with several looks. What do you think?
