Review – Clarins Santal Face Treatment Oil
Touted as a miracle oil by many, i just had to see for myself what all the fuss was about. Honestly, at the same time i was rather apprehensive about using a facial oil product when i already have an oily T-zone. Moreover, I was also afraid that it would make my skin more oily. Upon doing more research, i learned that Santal is specifically for those who with dry or very dry skin and that it can help to restore balance and repair the skin. Part of the same range, the Orchidee Blue Face Treatment Oil and Lotus Face Treatment Oil can help address other skin concerns.
Made from 100% pure plant extracts, the Clarins Face Treatment Oil is by no means a new product, but it is loved by many. If you’re curious about what this product can do, please read on
The glass bottle fitted with a dropper is the new and improved packaging, which i’m pretty sure is a result of listening to feedback from customers. It’s always good to know that the brands are listening, taking the outside-in approach and using that to their advantage.

While this isn’t a product that I use on a regular basis, i’ve tested it on numerous occasions over many months and the results have never left me disappointed. Now and then, I experience a bout of extra dry skin (Yes, even in humid Singapore!) sometimes due to neglect and other times due to stress. Stress can leave my skin itchy and the patchy redness will resurface. When i return from my travels, i also experience dry, flaky skin particularly around the nose and mouth area. I also often notice patches of redness on my cheeks.
Santal Face Treatment Oil helps to soften my skin, and most importantly – helps to calm and comfort my angry skin while I sleep.
In terms of texture, it isn’t as ‘heavy’ as say a body oil. Just 2-3 drops will do, if you overdo it, you will end up with a greasy looking face. Rub the product between your palms (see the Clarins method – link above) and press it lightly onto your skin without any rubbing. The smell alone is very therapeutic, so it is very relaxing as well as a night time ritual. It takes about 10-15 minutes to be fully absorbed into the skin.
Come morning, most of the redness would have settled and my skin doesn’t feel as itchy or irritated anymore. Usually, 2-3 nights of using this oil will help to eradicate the flakiness from my skin. I’m amazed by how much relief this oil can bring my skin when i need it. Because i don’t use it all the time and only very little product is needed each time you use it, the standard 30ml bottle can go a long way for sure.
If you suffer from similar concerns, i think the Clarins Santal Face Treatment Oil is definitely worth a try!
